Weed Preventative:

The use of a pre-emergent, such as Amaze, will reduce your weeding efforts by 75%. Apply it to the upper two inches of the soil to create a barrier that prevents weeds. This is safe to use in existing as well as newly constructed beds. Use 2.5 pounds per 500 square feet.

Weed Problems:

The use of herbicide has become commonplace in gardens. To eliminate grassy weeds for beds and ground cover, use 1.5 oz. of Round-Up herbicide to one gallon of water. To eliminate nut sedge and clover from lawns, use .75 ounce
of Image herbicide to one gallon of water. Apply both of these chemicals using a pump action sprayer.

These are the most effective solutions for weeds. The use of these elements, plus mulch, on a yearly basis will help keep your garden low maintenance. There are more environmentally friendly methods, which are more time consuming, but are something to consider.

Pest & Disease Prevention:

Healthy plants are preserved with proper care and maintenance. If you should need to treat your plants for insects and disease, use Fertilome's Triple Action, an environmentally friendly product with great results. This will treat for insects, fungus and mites. The label directions call for four tablespoons per gallon of water, which may easily be applied using a hose-end applicator every 7 to 10 days until insects or diseases are gone. You can also use Sta-Green Fungaway which comes in a ready-to-use solution. Use this product to treat brown patches in lawns and fungi on plants.
